The study of a modern foreign language is compulsory. Children study
Mandarin from Reception, with French offered as an option from Year 3.

communicative approach. The content is theme-based, age appropriate,
expansive and practical.
The Chinese language surrounds us in Hong Kong and is considered to
be a language of the future. Its importance, economically as well as
socially, is rapidly increasing. Chinese is taught as a modern
foreign language based on the English National Curriculum Modern
Foreign Language Programme.
French is a melodious and beautiful language, used extensively around
the world. Studying French provides a head start for learning other
Roman languages like Spanish, Italian or Portuguese.
