Kellett Christmas Lectures
Tuesday 8th December
Thanks to the Annual Fund, the first Kellett Christmas Lectures took place on 8 December 2015 and the event was a roaring success! Year 5-13 students, parents and staff indulged in scientific treats of liquid nitrogen ice cream before being wowed by live science demonstrations on stage. Explosions, chemical reactions, rocket launches and fire extinguisher-fuelled spinning chairs helped explain concepts such as inertia, Newton's laws of motion and electrolysis. Professor P W Leung from HKUST, our guest speaker, showed us how special effects in popular movies correctly and incorrectly apply Newton’s laws - from falling objects through to time travel and teleportation. The evening concluded with the audience participating in blowing ‘snow’ into the theatre!
