Recently, Y10 student Marcus Southward competed in the Hong Kong Curling Cup 2021!

Inspired by the Winter Olympics, Y10 student Marcus decided that he wanted to try something new. Already a keen sportsman, playing cricket, tennis, skiing, rowing and fencing, Marcus' willingness to explore other sporting avenues turned out to be a great decision, as after only five sessions, Marcus was selected to take part in the Hong Kong Curling Cup. Described as a 'natural', and too good to compete in the junior section, Marcus was the only junior competing in the adult section of the competition!

"I was watching the Winter Olympics and I thought it looked fun. I liked the idea of trying something completely different. It took quite a lot of research and perseverance to find out how to do this in Hong Kong, but once I joined, I have found the other players very welcoming and encouraging," said Marcus.

The uniqueness of the sport is one aspect that Marcus enjoys.

It is quite different, and something that uses a different skill-set to other sports. The skills you need are good balance, a steady eye, patience and a good understanding of tactics.

We look forward to seeing Marcus excel further in this sport, and hope that travel restrictions allow him to travel to Japan and Korea to train with their national teams.

Well done, Marcus!
