Kellett's third Elliott Lecture took place in March 2024, our community were riveted during the private screening of Emmy-nominated documentary ‘Delikado’. It was a very emotional documentary that followed environmental activists in the Philippines risking their lives to protect their forests and seas. This lecture served as a pre-cursor to our first Student-led Environmental Conference, being run onsite and online for student delegates from FOBISIA schools at Senior School.
We were honoured to be joined by Karl Malakunas, the Emmy-nominated director, who talked about his motivation and answered questions from our senior students, parents and staff. This event was the perfect commencement for our inaugural Environmental Conference which took place.
The Elliott Lectures are so named in honour of Joanne Elliott (a teacher and mother) who, campaigned for English-speaking children to be able to attend a pre-school in Hong Kong. In the absence of government support, in 1976 she opened a pre-school for reception students, called Starters. A year later, the school’s name was changed to Kellett! Therein lies the commitment at the core of the Elliott Lecture series.
