Kellett School first in Greater China to secure global standard in data protection

Kellett School, The British International School in Hong Kong is the first educational institution in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and China to be accredited with the gold standard for data security, ISO27001.  

ISO27001 is the world’s best-known standard for information security management, and best practice in data protection and cyber resilience.  

Reflecting the school’s commitment to protecting the data of its students, parents, staff and alumni, Kellett undertook a rigorous data management review and enhancements in order to reach the high standards required by ISO accreditation.  

Welcoming the accreditation Mark Steed, Principal & CEO of Kellett School remarked, “Schools are considered relatively easy targets by hackers, with unsophisticated IT systems and a relatively wide range of personal data on file. Here at Kellett we take our role as custodians of our community’s data extremely seriously, and our ISO accreditation reflects that.”   

At a ceremony to mark the achievement ISO representative, Mr Frank Zhang, the Managing Director, Assurance, Greater China, BSI congratulated Kellett on their accreditation commenting, “Through this ISO27001 certification, Kellett has demonstrated their commitment to achieving and maintaining high standards of information security and data protection. Kellett shows that it takes the risk of data breaches seriously and it is making an effort to keep apace of data protection technologies and best practices. It is leading the way in the education sector to protect school and student information from ever-increasingly sophisticated hackers.”
